To define what corporate social responsibility is we need to understand that corporate success and social welfare are interdependent. Companies must be aware of the impact they have on the social, economic and environmental aspects around them, and recognise that unsustainability is the greatest challenge we face today.
Sometimes it feels like the corporate world just travels towards its goal of maximising shareholder value without a care for anyone or anything in its path. Yet corporate entities have a responsibility to us and the environment we live in, so what does corporate social responsibility really mean?
CSR, or corporate social responsibility companies in uae, means being part of the system you live in, making a positive contribution to it and not being solely concerned about maximising your own profit. Here at Freestyle Divers, our great passion is the ocean and not just because we teach scuba diving. Without the ocean our planet would be a burning rock with no air to breathe and that’s why our number one focus is protecting our oceans.
So… What Exactly Is Corporate Social Responsibility & It’s Purpose?
Socially responsible companies will use their available resources to make an impact on communities both locally and globally to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Some examples of socially responsible companies include Adidas, who is fighting the war against plastic by turning plastic waste into high-performance sportswear. Starbucks, who supports Ethos Water – a campaign to bring clean water to 1 billion people around the world and the Ikea Foundation that helps families escape poverty by creating a sustainable income.
What is the purpose of corporate social responsibility within the diving world? Darryl, the owner of Freestyle Divers has made around 4,500 dives worldwide. He has seen a lot of our oceans and is extremely passionate about marine conservation.
Our dive centre is the only one in the region to have developed a complete online and face-to-face marine conservation education system. It is only through education that we can understand, and take action to protect our ocean.
We have built an artificial reef program called Project Reeframe with coral nursery tables to propagate healthy coral, building coral reef ecosystems that are teeming with life where before there was only sand. We scientifically monitor the progress of our program and use the data and information we collect to work with universities and the government to better understand the effects that temperature and other factors have on coral reefs.
Corporate Responsibility Is Everyone’s Responsibility
When choosing a brand to buy, a holiday to go on or an activity to do, the consumer should be aware of what corporate responsibility is, and choose wisely. By supporting companies that have a high ethos we will force less responsible businesses to become socially responsible too.
Freestyle Divers are not interested in offering discount deals or selling cheap packages. We want people to fully master the art of diving, and gain a true understanding of our oceans, not just to gain a certificate.
Together we can all be socially responsible and help build a better future. If you’d like to learn more about getting involved with Project Reeframe please visit our dedicated page
