Your Dive Adventure Begins Here: Should you Choose Good, Fast or Cheap?

Which Kind of Dive Centre Should I Choose?

If you’ve just made the decision to learn to dive, you will almost certainly have a lot of questions, starting with the most basic one: where should I take my first course?

There are a lot of choices out there, with dive trainers proposing widely varying prices for what looks like exactly the same course to a first-time diver.

That’s because every dive centre has its own approach to acquiring new customers, some are focused on getting as many people through the door as possible and these will offer amazingly cheap deals, however it’s likely that the classes will be larger, and the training quality often suffers. Others will charge higher prices for smaller classes that focus on making you the best and safest diver. Which one is best for you?

Should I Look For a Diving Course That is Good, Fast or Cheap?

There’s an old saying in the services industry: a service can be good, fast, or cheap, but it can’t be all three. The best you can hope for is two out of three, and the two you choose will determine the result you get. It’s called the iron triangle and the combinations look like this:

Cheap and fast will produce low quality results.

Cheap and good is very hard to find and will always be a slower path. A lot of organisations promise cheap and good, the problem is that you won’t know whether it is actually good until you have spent the money and taken the service, and if it’s bad, you wasted your time and money and will need to start again.

Good and fast is likely to be more expensive but the result will be of higher quality. The word ‘fast’ deserves a little more examination, since it may not mean quite what you would expect. In the context of diving, fast is intended to mean the speed at which proficiency is reached, not the duration of the course.

So, if you are going to spend your hard-earned cash on scuba diving courses, let’s assume that “Good” will be your first choice, after all, you will be learning to master a set of survival skills in an environment that was not designed for humans, so “bad” is clearly not a safe choice.

As you can only pick two choices, if you want Good, that means that the Cheap and Fast combination is no longer an option, which is probably for the best. Making “throwaway purchases” might be a valid choice for buying disposable commodities, but is that really the way you would want to learn a life preserving skill?

That leaves us with the choice between “Good and Fast” and “Good and Cheap”. We have based our whole operation on the Good and Fast model – combining the best quality modern training methods with highly experienced instructors to create safe, confident and competent divers. Paying a little more for the initial course means that you will not have to spend extra time and money to fix the issues that “Cheap” training creates.

At Freestyle Divers, your journey into the underwater world begins with safety, innovation, and camaraderie. If you are looking for “Good and Fast”, here are 10 reasons why we stand out as the ideal dive centre for you:

  • Focus on Core Skills

We prioritize core elements such as neutral buoyancy and trim, enabling our graduates to dive effortlessly and for longer durations. By mastering these fundamentals, you'll enjoy a more efficient diving attitude and profile in the water.

  • Emphasis on Rescue Techniques

Your safety and confidence are paramount, which is why we introduce basic rescue techniques early in your training to empower you to assist your buddy while diving. This not only enhances your diving skills but also enriches the group dynamic, fostering a sense of teamwork and support.
