Volunteer Conservation Projects have Become Essential
Programs such as Project REEFrame play a vital role in safeguarding the planet for future generations, and without them, we would be in great danger. You may not be aware of just how important the ocean is, and why protecting it at all costs should be in everyone’s interest. Often described as the ‘lungs of the planet’ the ocean is responsible for more than 50% of the oxygen we breathe, as well as the absorbtion of 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. As a result of pollution and global warming, this is becoming an increasingly difficult task, and in turn, our local coral reefs are at risk. Sadly, numerous coral reef species are close to extinction, and many others are heading that way if we don’t take immediate action, and this is what Project REEFrame is all about. At Freestyle Divers, it’s our mission to rescue broken pieces of endangered coral and watch them thrive on our specifically designed nursery tables. Once they have grown big and strong enough, we attach them to our artificial reefs to start their new life. We are pleased to say that in just two years, we have turned a once bare site into a hub of activity with over 100 identified species that have been drawn here due to our new coral!

Looking to do your bit towards saving our local coral reef ecosystems? Then our volunteer conservation projects would be perfect for you! You don’t have to be a trained driver or have a particular set of skills to support us, but just a passion to do what you can for our planet. If you already dive, then we will take the time to teach you how to gather and propagate coral. If you don’t yet dive but are interested in learning, then we can help with that too! However, if getting in the water is not your thing, there are still plenty of useful land-based tasks that will help the project immensely.
